The Rolex Batman and Batgirl are two of the most recognisable modern interpretations of the GMT-Master II. Defined by their distinctive black-and-blue Cerachrom bezel, both have become highly sought-after among collectors and are now firmly established as modern Rolex icons.
The story began in 2013 with the ref. 116710BLNR, the first Rolex GMT-Master II to feature a two-colour blue-and-black ceramic bezel. Paired with a black dial and Oyster bracelet, the combination created a contemporary and understated look. Collectors quickly adopted the nickname “Batman”, inspired by the colours of the comic-book character. The 116710BLNR remained in production until 2019 and has since become an important reference for modern Rolex collectors.
In 2019, Rolex introduced the ref. 126710BLNR, powered by the new-generation Calibre 3285 movement. It initially launched on the Jubilee bracelet, giving the black-and-blue GMT-Master II a more refined and distinctive appearance. Collectors began referring to this Jubilee version as the “Batgirl”, while the Oyster-bracelet configuration continued to be known as the “Batman.” Importantly, Batman and Batgirl are collector nicknames rather than official Rolex model names; both configurations are the 126710BLNR.
Together, the 116710BLNR and 126710BLNR represent the evolution of Rolex’s black-and-blue GMT-Master II. From the original ceramic-bezel Batman to the modern Batgirl, these references combine Rolex’s iconic travel-watch design with one of the most recognisable colour combinations in contemporary watch collecting.
